Caffè con Buona Fortuna: Where Our Stories Intersect.

There is something wonderfully simple about Caffè con Buona Fortuna.

We gather on a Saturday morning. We order coffee. We pull another chair up to the table. And then we talk.

But somewhere between the first cup and the last goodbye, something much more important happens.

We get to know one another.

That may sound simple, but as our Lodge continues to grow, these informal gatherings have become one of the most important ways we build the friendships and connections that turn membership in Buona Fortuna into something much more personal. Read More.

Buona Fortuna Celebrates Family Around the Italian Table

Buona Fortuna Lodge #2835 recently gathered for our Saturday Family Italian Dinner, an evening centered around one of our favorite Italian traditions — bringing family and friends together around the table.

Members and guests enjoyed a wonderful homemade Italian meal prepared by our own Ken and Phyllis Baker, featuring meatballs and sausage in red sauce with garlic knots, fresh salad, lasagna, cheese lasagna, Alfredo noodles with grilled chicken, panna cotta, and fresh fruit salad.

The evening was about much more than dinner. Members shared conversation, laughter, fellowship, and a little friendly fun with a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

Our sincere thanks go to Ken and Phyllis for sharing their culinary talents with the Lodge and to everyone who helped with setup, check-in, serving, and cleanup.

Events like this reflect what Buona Fortuna is all about: celebrating our Italian heritage while strengthening the friendships and sense of famiglia that bring our Lodge together.

STRIKE! IN STILE ITALIANO

Embracing not just our Italian heritage but also our American roots, Buona Fortuna Lodge members participated in our first-ever “Bowling with Buona Fortuna” on Sunday, August 9.

We traded in the warm, quiet sand or crushed stone of the bocce lanes and the small pallino for noisy, air-conditioned hardwood lanes and tall pins being attacked by heavy bowling balls! About 35 Lodge members joined us at DeLuna Lanes on Nine Mile Road for an indoor social gathering filled with friendly competition and lots of fun.

There was laughter, excitement, cheering and, of course, prizes. Who won??? Everyone who showed up for the event! But yes, there are more details…

Several Lodge brothers and sisters came to watch and socialize, while 24 active bowlers — young, not so young, and everything in between — took to the lanes. Most notably, FOTO was so well represented that we had to break up some of their group to even out the teams!

Each lane became a team of six, with prizes awarded to the top bowler on each team for each game. There were also awards planned for “turkeys” — three strikes in a row. Since we didn’t have any turkeys that afternoon, the bowler with the most strikes in each game received the award instead. And, of course, we had to recognize the highest-scoring bowler of the day. Summer Tombola: What a Way to Say “Until Next Time”!

What an unforgettable summer-themed Tombola night!

Last night was extra special for me because it was my final event as host before I head off to Italy for a couple of months. And what better way to say arrivederci than with an evening filled with laughter, games, prizes, surprises, and some truly wonderful people?

The decorations were full of summer spirit, and the prizes in all five categories were overflowing and so thoughtfully put together. There was certainly no shortage of reasons to get excited when the winning numbers started being called!

And then there were the games! We had a hilarious mix of old favorites and new creations between rounds, including the game affectionately known as “Hot Pants”—made even more perfect and appropriately ridiculous when accompanied by James Brown’s Hot Pants.

Of course, with our Palio just around the corner, we had to bring some Palio-inspired fun into the evening! I created a few Palio games that were an absolute hit, including inflatable ride-on horses, an obstacle course featuring baby dolls and little animals sitting at the cones, and plenty of opportunities to demonstrate that apparently SOMEONE DID NOT READ THE PALIO RULES!

For the record, Palio does not allow children under 10 or animals at the race… so naturally, we had to bring them into our version!

We also had the famous Shake It Baby marbles bottle-shaking game, a Palio horse race involving toilet paper, a water-in-shot-glasses challenge, and plenty of other silliness that kept everyone laughing between rounds. Read More.
